It also offers various options to become certified in many academic areas. The undergraduate program in Education provides pre-professional training for teaching on the pre-school, elementary, middle school, and secondary school levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Entry and Exit Requirements<\/strong><br\/>\nStudents seeking admission to the undergraduate programs apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program normally second semester of sophomore year.<\/p>\n<p>Admission criteria include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n\t<li>3.0 minimum grade point average<\/li>\n\t<li>successful completion of ED-490: Sophomore Clinical Experience and Seminar<\/li>\n\t<li>successful completion of either ED-160 or ED-170\/ED-203<\/li>\n\t<li>entrance interview and recommendation of School of Education Faculty<\/li>\n\t<li>taking and passing the Praxis I Core Exam<br\/>\n\t\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Exit requirements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n\t<li>3.0 minimum overall grade point average\u00a0<\/li>\n\t<li>exit interview conducted in Student Teacher Seminar<\/li>\n\t<li>Praxis Exam in the specialized area that the student wishes to be certified in<br\/>\n\t\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>New Jersey Certification Requirements<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Elementary School Teacher certification requires students to complete:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n\t<li>core curriculum requirements (minimum of 60 credits in liberal arts)<\/li>\n\t<li>coherent sequence and major in Elementary Education<sup>2<\/sup><\/li>\n\t<li>required passing of Praxis I and Praxis II exams<sup>1<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Middle School Teacher certification requires students to complete:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n\t<li>core curriculum requirements (minimum of 60 credits in liberal arts)<\/li>\n\t<li>coherent sequence and major in Elementary Education<\/li>\n\t<li>15 credits in approved program in each subject endorsed on the middle school level; the credits may be included in the academic major, core curriculum or electives<\/li>\n\t<li>required passing of Praxis I and Praxis II exams<sup>1<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Secondary School certification requires students to complete:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n\t<li>core curriculum requirements\u00a0<\/li>\n\t<li>academic major (minimum of 30 credits in subject area to be taught) and minor in Secondary Education<\/li>\n\t<li>required passing of Praxis I and Praxis II exams<sup>1<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup> Note: All students will be required to take and pass the Praxis exam before being permitted to student teach.<\/p>\n<p><sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0Elementary Education majors can also take required courses for Pre-School-3 Certification.<\/p>\n<h3>Areas Of Certification<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Elementary Education Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n\t<li>Elementary Classroom Teacher (K-6)<\/li>\n\t<li>Pre-School-3 Certification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Elementary Education Program with Middle School Certification<\/strong> (15 credits are required in subject area for middle school certification. An overall score of 6.5 on the IELTS is also acceptable. The University code for score reporting is 2806.<\/li>\n<li>Completion of ELS Language Center course with a score of 112 or higher, FLS Level 16 or completion of Kaplan Advanced Level.<\/li>\n<li>Course-by-course evaluation reporting a 4-year bachelor\u2019s and CGPA from an approved NACES evaluation company.
