They further the understanding of our world through mathematics because mathematics drives society and shapes our lives.\u201d Check out their website <a href=\"https:\/\/mathcareers.maa.org\/\">mathcareers<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ams.org\/home\/page\">American Mathematical Society<\/a> is dedicated to advancing research and connecting the diverse global mathematical community. They also have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ams.org\/profession\/career-info\/career-index\">page<\/a> dedicated to careers in mathematics.<\/li>\n<li>As its name suggests, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.siam.org\/\">Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics<\/a> represents the interests of mathematicians working in industry and academic mathematicians working in applied mathematics. SIAM publishes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.siam.org\/Portals\/0\/Student%20Programs\/Thinking%20of%20a%20Career\/brochure.pdf?ver=2018-03-13-125027-530\">brochure<\/a> on careers in mathematics.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nam-math.org\/\">National Association of Mathematicians (NAM)<\/a> is a professional organization in the mathematical sciences with membership open to all persons interested in the mission and purpose of NAM which are promoting excellence in the mathematical sciences and promoting the mathematical development of all underrepresented minorities.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amstat.org\/\">American Statistical Association<\/a> is the world\u2019s largest community of statisticians\u201d with the mission to \u201cpromote the practice and profession of statistics.\u201d Check out their website <a href=\"https:\/\/thisisstatistics.org\/\">This is Statistics<\/a> for information on careers in statistics.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nctm.org\/\">National Council of Teachers of Mathematics<\/a> is the world\u2019s largest mathematics education organization, the \u201cpublic voice of mathematics education.<\/li>\n<li>The web site <a href=\"http:\/\/beanactuary.org\">beanactuary.org<\/a> guides students, beginning in high school, on the path to becoming an actuary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Guidelines for Majors and Minors<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Department provides the document <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/44\/files\/2023\/06\/guidelines-for-math_stats-majors-and-minors-Gerard-Protomastro.pdf\">Guidelines for Mathematics and Statistics Majors and Minors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>See this document for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/44\/files\/2023\/12\/rotation_updated_Dec_2023.pdf\">tentative course rotation schedule<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are checklists of courses that majors can use to monitor their progress.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/44\/files\/2023\/11\/Math-BS-Major-Checklist-Updated-November-2023.pdf\">Mathematics Major (BS) Checklist<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/44\/files\/2023\/11\/Math-BAEE-Major-Checklist-Updated-November-2023.pdf\">Mathematics Major (BA &#8211; Elem Ed Concentration) Checklist<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/44\/files\/2023\/11\/Math-BASE-Major-Checklist-Updated-November-2023.pdf\">Mathematics Major (BA &#8211; Secondary Ed Concentration) Checklist<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Selecting Core Mathematics Courses<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Depending on their majors, Â鶹´«Ã½AVPeter&#8217;s University students are required to take either 3 or 4 credits in mathematics to satisfy the core curriculum requirement. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/44\/files\/2024\/09\/Math-Flowchart.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">We provide a flow chart<\/a> to help students and their advisors select the appropriate course.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Clubs &amp; Organizations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Pi Mu Epsilon is a national mathematics honor society founded at Syracuse University and incorporated in 1914 under the laws of the State of New York.
