{"id":1211,"date":"2025-06-18T15:09:50","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T19:09:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/global-learning\/?page_id=1211"},"modified":"2025-06-24T14:46:47","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T18:46:47","slug":"stem-opt-extension-24-month-extension","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/global-learning\/international-students\/stem-opt-extension-24-month-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"STEM OPT Extension (24-Month Extension)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 24-month STEM OPT Extension allows eligible F-1 students who have completed a degree in a qualifying <a href=\"chrome-extension:\/\/efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj\/https:\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/sevis\/pdf\/stemList2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DHS STEM Designated field<\/a> to apply for additional work authorization beyond the initial 12-month post-completion OPT.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Eligibility Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>To be eligible for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be currently authorized for post-completion OPT and in valid F-1 status.<\/li>\n<li>Have completed a bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s, or doctoral degree in a field listed on the <a href=\"chrome-extension:\/\/efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj\/https:\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/sevis\/pdf\/stemList2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Be employed by or have a job offer from an E-Verify employer.<\/li>\n<li>Be working in a job directly related to your STEM degree.<\/li>\n<li>Work at least 20 hours per week for each employer.<\/li>\n<li>Submit the STEM OPT application to USCIS before your current OPT expires.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Fees &amp; Costs<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Â鶹´«Ã½AVPeter\u2019s University Maintenance of Status Fee:<\/strong> $200: This institutional fee supports continued SEVIS reporting, compliance monitoring, and advising throughout your STEM OPT period.<br \/>\n<strong>You will only be charged this fee after you submit your STEM OPT request through the International Student Portal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>USCIS Application Fee<\/strong>: $470: Payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security when submitting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/i-765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Form I-765<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Optional Expenses:<\/strong> <strong>Premium processing <\/strong>is expedited processing and is available for optional practical training. Premium processing is available by filing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/i-907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Form I-907, Request for Premium Processing Service<\/a>. It has a separate application and fee of $1685 USD.
