As long as you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/global-learning\/international-students\/maintaining-f-1-status\/\">maintain valid F-1 status<\/a> and are enrolled full-time, you are allowed to work on campus without needing special permission from the Center for Global Learning (CGL) or the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).<\/p>\n<p>In other words, on-campus employment authorization is inherent to your F-1 status. You do not need to apply for a separate work permit to begin on-campus employment. However, you must still meet certain criteria before beginning any job, to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and university policies.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Eligibility Requirements<\/h4>\n<p>To work on campus as an F-1 student, you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have an ACTIVE SEVIS record<\/li>\n<li>have an unexpired Form I-20 issued by SPU<\/li>\n<li>be in valid F-1 status<\/li>\n<li>be enrolled full-time during the academic semester\/trimester<\/li>\n<li>maintain good academic standing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>What Qualifies as On-Campus Employment?<\/h4>\n<p>On-campus employment must meet all of the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the job is physically located on campus<\/li>\n<li>the work is for Âé¶¹´«Ã½AVPeter\u2019s University or an on-site commercial business that provides services to SPU students<\/li>\n<li>the job does not exceed 20 hours per week while school is in session (University policy limits on campus jobs to 15 hours per week)<\/li>\n<li>you may work full-time (up to 40 hours\/week) during official university breaks. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/ceel\/\">Please consult with CEEL<\/a> for the University\u2019s policy on on-campus work during the summer and winter breaks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples of on-campus jobs include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Library assistant<\/li>\n<li>Office support (departments, student services, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Lab or research assistant<\/li>\n<li>Peer tutor or mentor<\/li>\n<li>Dining services or bookstore staff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>On-Campus Work at an Off-Campus Location<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nafsa.org\/regulatory-information\/8cfr2142f#2142f9i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Per NAFSA guidelines<\/a>, \u201con-campus\u201d may also include work, \u201cat an off-campus location which is educationally affiliated with the school\u2026In the case of off-campus locations, the educational affiliation must be associated with the school\u2019s established curriculum or related to contractually funded research projects at the post-graduate level. In any event, the employment must be an integral part of the student\u2019s educational program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In certain cases, F-1 students may engage in employment that takes place at an off-campus location but still qualifies as on-campus employment under federal regulations. This is permitted only if the off-campus site is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>educationally affiliated with Âé¶¹´«Ã½AVPeter\u2019s University<\/li>\n<li>an integral part of the student\u2019s academic program<\/li>\n<li>operated directly or in close affiliation with the university<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples may include working at a university-affiliated research institute, medical center, or training facility. However, not all off-campus jobs are eligible\u2014employment must clearly serve the student population and be formally associated with the university.<\/p>\n<p>You must obtain written confirmation from both the university and the site of employment explaining how the position meets these criteria. The Center for Global Learning must approve the employment before you can begin.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>How to Find and Apply for On-Campus Jobs<\/h4>\n<p>Students wishing to work on campus must work directly with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/ceel\/\">Center for Career Engagement and Experiential Learning (CEEL)<\/a>. Visit CEEL for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>job listings and internship opportunities<\/li>\n<li>resume reviews and interview prep<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Handshake Online Platform<\/strong><br \/>\nÂé¶¹´«Ã½AVPeter\u2019s uses Handshake to post student jobs and internships.
