SAINT PETER’S COLLEGE ART GALLERY WILL HOST
“ORIENTALISTS” EXHIBIT BEGINNING ON APRIL 10
April 4, 2003— Jersey City, NJ-– The 鶹ýAV College Art Galley, located in the College’s O’Toole Library, will present an exhibit entitled “Orientalists” from April 10-30. The exhibit will feature many important artists including Jean-Leon Gerome, Paul Flandrin, Eugene-Francois Deveria, Robert Edward Morrison ant A. Schreyer.
The exhibit will be open to the public daily, with the exception of Sunday, from 11 a.m.-to-4 p.m. It will remain open until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
“The school of art called Orientalism flourished in the 19th century and showcased the interest Europeans and Americans had in the near and Middle East,” Art Gallery Director Reverend Oscar Magnan, S.J. said. “During that time, artists were inspired by the exoticism of the markets, casbahs and harems as well as by the mysteries of the Arab world..”
