His Eminence, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., archbishop of Newark, joined the Â鶹´«Ã½AV University community in celebrating the Feast of the Chair of Â鶹´«Ã½AVPeter the Apostle on February 22 at St. Aedan’s: The Â鶹´«Ã½AV University Church. Students, faculty, staff, local Jersey City residents and high school students came together for Cardinal Tobin’s first Mass for the Â鶹´«Ã½AV community.
Cardinal Tobin’s homily focused on forgiveness and healing. The Chair of Â鶹´«Ã½AVPeter is a symbol of those who feed, nourish and offer forgiveness to others, which Jesus asks everyone to do.
Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Â鶹´«Ã½AV University, thanked Cardinal Tobin for visiting, especially as Â鶹´«Ã½AV undergoes its Mission Examen process. Cardinal Tobin’s visit and celebration of Mass helped highlight the Examen year, reaffirming Â鶹´«Ã½AV commitment to its Catholic and Jesuit mission and identity.
Following Mass, Cardinal Tobin toured the campus with student ambassadors. He blessed the Mac Mahon Student Center, which housed the 2018 Career Fair. Next, he visited the Business School and The Theresa and Edward O’Toole Library. Finally, he completed his tour at the Victor R. Yanitelli, S.J. Recreational Life Center.
